The Kimanya-Kabonera MP Abed Bwanika claims that the Kabaka of Buganda has endorsed Mathias Mpuuga to be the flag bearer for all Buganda region’s service delivery-related concerns going into the 2026 elections. Bwanika says that the Robert Kyagulanyi-led NUP has failed to offer effective leadership and articulate Buganda’s development and service delivery agenda largely because of Bobi Wine’s personal ineptness.
Speaking on CBS radio under Med Nsereko’s moderation, the fearless NUP MP asserted that its only members of the Mathias Mpuuga coalition that can ably articulate Buganda’s concerns on matters like the Federo system of governance and coffee farming in the region. That if the opposition was still being led by Mpuuga, Buganda wouldn’t have emerged empty-handed out of the coffee debate.
That because the King desires to see anti-Museveni forces led better in his Kingdom, the Kabaka recently reached out and waved at Mathias Mpuuga during the Masaza tournament finals at Namboole where Mpuuga’s home County of Buddu thumped Kyaggwe. The Kabaka was received cheerfully by the massive crowd at Namboole where the two leading protagonists in NUP namely Mpuuga and Bobi Wine were in attendance.
As he inspected the teams and walked around the stadium, ostensibly to assure his cheering subjects that he was not ailing to the extent fake news peddlers like Fred Lumbuye had depicted, the Kabaka took note and seemed deliberate in the way he waved at Mpuuga who sat in one of the VVIP sections. However, the same King’s gesture was muted and less conspicuous when he reached the section of the pavilion where Bobi Wine was.
Abed Bwanika says that the way Bobi Wine was disregarded that day was meant to signal the King’s displeasure with NUP thousands of whose foot soldiers denied him peace while he tried to be away in Namibia to facilitate peaceful healing from the medical condition that had been tormenting him.
The Kyagulanyi foot soldiers went as far as staging demonstrations in different countries around the globe, a thing that denied the King his much-deserved rest as had been recommended by his medical teams.
This is understood to have greatly angered the Kabaka and the same time alienated Bobi Wine who publicly supported demands by his supporters to have the Katikkiro disclose what the King was suffering from and have him back home to live decently in his own Kingdom.
Abed Bwanika says that the embarrassment and humiliation the Kabaka endured explains why Baganda must use the 2026 electioneering period to politically punish Bobi Wine and whoever his NUP party will front for MP and local council positions.
He says the Mpuuga group is going to work out a minimum campaigning programme highlighting Buganda region’s priorities whose amplification every NUP candidate will be required to amplify while declaring total loyalty to the Kabaka or else risk being disregarded by voters in the populous and politically very influential region.
