Police in Kampala have recovered 35 computers and arrested five suspects in connection with a robbery at Buwambo Seed Secondary School in Wakiso district. Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said police made significant progress investigating a case of office breaking and theft at Buwambo Seed Secondary School.
The case, registered at Matugga Police Station, followed days of tracing the suspects’ movements. The night break-in occurred on 18 June 2026, when unknown persons cut the school’s perimeter fence, gained access to the premises, and broke into the computer laboratory. Four HP server CPUs valued at Shs 60 million were stolen.
“Following extensive investigations into the suspects’ movements, police impounded motor vehicle UA 771EB, believed to have been used in the crime,” Owoyesigyire said. He added that two suspects were arrested, and information from their interrogation led investigators to several locations in Kampala.
On Wednesday, a police team conducted an operation at E-Tower along Kampala Road, where 15 computer CPUs, 9 UPS units, and 11 HP monitors, suspected to be stolen property, were recovered. Owoyesigyire said additional computer accessories were also recovered from other premises linked to the investigation.
“We have apprehended five suspects currently in custody as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the theft and recover more stolen property. Police remain committed to bringing all those involved to justice.”Owoyesigyire said. The Buwambo Seed Secondary School computer theft adds to growing concern over housebreakings at highly guarded institutions of learning and banks. This follows the recent Bank of Uganda break-in, in which seven laptops were stolen.
Crime Intelligence later arrested at least nine counterterrorism police officers over the Bank of Uganda break-in. Sgt. Amone Joseph, PC Ouma Wilson, PC Omach Thomas, PC Mungusho Shafic, PC Oryono Brian, Alex Onduri, Solomon Orache, and Morish Ocen were charged and remanded for their alleged role in the burglary at one of the country’s most heavily guarded financial institutions.
Security personnel also arrested four other suspects. They are Boaz Kule Michael, 19, a casual worker from Wabigalo Zone, Makindye Division; Kabuya Ramadhan alias Rama, 27, a bus conductor; Rubangakene Isaac alias Izoo, a mobile phone accessories dealer; and Oedo Jorem Jude, 43, a computer technician from Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. Police said investigations continue as detectives interrogate the apprehended suspects to identify other accomplices still at large in connection with the Buwambo Seed Secondary School break-in-URN.
