The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded 11 people to September 23, 2026, over allegations of criminal trespass at State House, Nakasero. The accused were remanded by Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa after appearing before the court in a case brought by the State.
The accused are Stephen Okello, 31, a teacher; Iddi Kigozi, 34, a manufacturer of school chalk and paint; Joan Muhaise, 32, a businesswoman; Robert Bayiga Tumuramye, 50, a social scientist; Fatiah Nakamya, 35, a businesswoman; Onesmas Tumutegereza, 37, a businessman; Yasin Owomugisha, 33, a businessman and parliamentary aspirant; Esther Twikirize, 32, a student; Cledonia Musiimenta, 47, a former district councillor and student; Caroline Arituha, 32, unemployed; and Seth Muyambi, 40, a former parliamentary contestant for Mbarara City South.
According to the charge sheet, the 11 are accused of criminal trespass contrary to Section 282(b) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.
The prosecution alleges that on September 9, 2026, at State House, Nakasero, in Kampala District, the accused, and others still at large, having lawfully entered into or upon the premises of the State House, remained there with intent to intimidate or annoy the soldiers of Special Forces Command on Duty. The accused persons denied the charges. State Attorney Ayub Kamba told the court that investigations into the matter are complete. They were accordingly remanded to Luzira Prison until September 23rd, 2026, for a bail hearing.
Trouble for the accused persons started when they went to State House to follow up on a petition they had delivered a day before their arrest to be given to the President.
Court records show that the accused persons had their petition well received and stamped and were told that they would be contacted and given feedback in the future.
However, a day later, they returned to State House demanding a follow-up when they hadn’t been called, hence the arrest. The majority of the accused persons are politicians who are NRM-leaning and participated in the recent elections unsuccessfully-URN.
