Through the newly re-constituted Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the US government has unequivocally made it clear while signaling Museveni that its not going to business as usual nor be acceptable for his government to violate human right of its opponents while locking them up in military jails and at the same time call itself a bilateral partner of the United States of America.
The all-powerful Senate Commiittee’s latest statement, coming only days after Winnie Byanyima appeared on BBC TV in London and publicized the political persecution of her husband Dr. Kizza Besigye, also castigates the regime in Kampala for locking up the veteran opposition leader.
That their actions and the circumstances of Besigye’s kidnap from Kenya amounted to violating sovereignity of Kenya from whose soil he was abducted and Kampala’s failure to respect human rights and rule of law.
