he Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has recruited 81 people out of the 102 targeted slots in Kamwenge and Kitagwenda districts, falling short of its recruitment quota by 21 candidates. The recruitment exercise was conducted on Wednesday at Kamwenge District Headquarters.
Major Steven Tumwesigye, the spokesperson for Mountain Rwenzori Division and Operation Shujaa, said Kamwenge district produced 51 recruits out of the 72 candidates targeted. Of the 51 recruits from Kamwenge, 17 were professionals, while only two females turned up for the recruitment exercise.
Kitagwenda district produced 30 recruits, including 13 professionals, four females and nine males. Maj. Tumwesigye attributed the shortfall to the thorough verification of applicants, which disqualified some candidates after discrepancies were found in their documents.
He said the verification process was necessary to ensure that only eligible candidates were recruited. The successful candidates are expected to report to different UPDF training schools across the country within three days following completion of the recruitment exercise-URN.
