Policy Analysts in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Uganda have been urged to enhance their skillset and knowledge so as to be able to adequately support government efforts in decision making and planning for the country.
This call was made by Hajji Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, while delivering a keynote address at the 2nd Policy Analysts Forum held at Mbale Resort Hotel in Mbale City on Tuesday.
The forum, organized by the Office of the President, is being held under the theme: “Fostering Confidence through Professionalism, Transparency and Accountability in the Public Service.”
Kakande said that with the evolving nature of policies across the world, there is a need for retooling for policy analysts by enrolling for further studies.
According to Kakande, policy analysts play a critical role in the development of the country and therefore enhancing their skills and knowledge should be a priority.
Delivering a paper on Building Public Service Culture and Career Development for Policy Analysts, Dr. Mugunga Emmanuel Freddie, the Under Secretary, Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, underscored the need for MDAs to understand the role played by policy analysts in formulation of policies for onward transmission to Cabinet for scrutiny and approval.
Ronald Reagan Namanya, a senior policy analyst at the Ministry of Works and Transport, stressed the significance of the forum in networking and sharing best practices in policy analysis to aid in the smooth running of the affairs of the country.
