Police in Kagadi and Kibaale districts are investigating two separate incidents in which disputes escalated into fatal violence, leaving two people dead.
In Kagadi District, police have arrested a 45-year-old man, Justus Kasigazi, over the alleged killing of his neighbour, Sadam Basaija, aged 50. Both men are residents of Kagugo Village, Katikengeye Parish, Nyakarongo Sub-county. The incident occurred on Friday at about 2:00 p.m. at Katikengeye Trading Centre following a long-standing dispute over land boundaries. Local leaders say Kasigazi allegedly attacked Basaija with a panga, inflicting fatal injuries.
The suspect was later disarmed by residents and handed over to police. The LC I Chairperson of Kagugo Village, Kiiza Wilfred, said the two neighbours had for a long time been involved in disagreements over boundary marks separating their plots of land.
The Katikengeye Parish Councillor, Tanazio Byamukama, condemned the incident and called on residents to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation when resolving conflicts.
By time of filing, the police had conveyed the body of the deceased to Kagadi Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination, while the suspect was being detained at Kagadi Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in Kibaale District, police are hunting for a 25-year-old man identified as Boy Kasuku, a resident of Kanyogoga Village in Mugarama Sub-county, over the alleged killing of a 14-year-old chapati seller, Jeremiah Charles Akanyijuka.
The incident reportedly occurred on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at around 7:00 p.m. at Mukasansa Trading Centre.
According to police, the suspect developed a misunderstanding with the deceased over 500 Uganda shillings while playing gambling/slot machines.
The disagreement allegedly escalated, and the suspect stabbed the juvenile with a knife, killing him at the scene.
The Kanyogoga Village Chairperson, Omuhereza Munyaneza Taragaboine, described the suspect as a habitual troublemaker allegedly involved in drug abuse and gambling on slot machines.
They appealed to security agencies to ensure that the suspect is arrested and brought to court.
The LC III Chairperson of Mugarama Sub-county, Magezi Tumwesige, said he received a phone call alerting him about the incident, rushed to the scene to confirm the information, and later informed Imara Police Station, whose officers responded promptly.
Magezi condemned the act and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
He added that beginning January 2026, the sub-county leadership will work with police to establish vigilance committees in every village to enhance security.
Dr. Kasangaki Andrew Kaahwa from Kibaale Health Centre IV conducted a postmortem examination, after which the body of the deceased was released to relatives for burial. Officers from Imara Police Station and Kibaale Police, led by the Deputy CID, Orishaba Benjamin, had visited the scene. Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect, who remains on the run.
