Three people have been killed after a sugarcane truck overturned along the Kamuli-Jinja Highway.
The crash, which also left seven others injured, involved a Tata truck, registration number UBM 106q. According to eyewitnesses, the truck was transporting sugarcane from Kamuli to Jinja and upon reaching Nawanyago Town Council, the driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle overturned several times.
Three people who were travelling on top of the loaded cane were killed instantly, while seven others sustained injuries.
Michael Kasadha, spokesperson for the Busoga North Police, identified the deceased as Koozala Nicholas, 25, a resident of Itukulu Bukaya Zone, Nawanyago Sub-county, Kibikyo Derick, 16, a resident of Bukula Village, Nawanyago and Ssajjabi Asadi, 26, a resident of Buwolero-Mawolero Zone, Buwenge Rural in Jinja District.
