Police in Bududa district are holding three suspects after they were found in possession of government Mosquito Nets meant for the people of Bududa.
The trio Nakawesi Mary, Ruth Nansubuga and Keith Mulondo who are currently in police custody at Bududa central police station were found with 492 three Mosquito Nets packed in three different sacks.
These were intercepted from Bunamubi trading centre in Bukigai sub county after a weasel blower tipped police about the same.
It is alleged that someone identified only as Benah, Village Health Team of Bumwalukani, was the one who was dealing in hiding the Nets with the intention of selling them.
According to Mr. Banabas Banyenzaki the DPC Bududa, they conducted a search in Benah’s home and discovered six original packaging bags in a nearby abandoned latrine.
He said they are now hunting for Benah the VHT who is still on the run.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon regional police spokesperson confirmed the arrest saying they are going to take the suspects to court to answer charges of theft and stealthily being in possession of government property.
It should be noted that Bududa district received 160,000 Nets to serve a population of 250,000.This saw some of the community members missing the Nets with others receiving less than expected.
Emma Namondo on of the beneficiaries said police has done a good thing because that is what many leaders in Bududa do.
He said many of them steal what is meant for Bududa people and take to their homes.
