A Senior One student of Ngai Senior Secondary School in Oyam District has died following a stampede.

Immaculate Ayo succumbed to her injuries at Anyeke Health Centre IV on Friday. Thirty other students who sustained injuries were also rushed to various health facilities for treatment.

Brenda Acheng, a student at the school, narrated that an unidentified student was charging a phone battery in one of the rooms where students were studying. Suddenly, the battery exploded, causing panic.

According to Acheng, some students collapsed, while others struggled to escape through a narrow door, leading to the stampede.

Job Mutegeki, the District Police Commander of Oyam, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary reports indicate an unidentified student had been charging the phone directly.

Jannani Okot, the head teacher of Ngai Secondary School, described the incident as unfortunate and a tragedy for the school and community.
