Controversial land dealer Moses Karangwa has created the impression that Buganda region is on sale by investing up to Ugx2bn in order to get the CEC vote to become the NRM chairman for central region.

With voting at Kololo just hours away, Karangwa’s squads spent the whole of Tuesday night dishing out colossal sums of money, even when voter bribery practices had officially been declared banned.

NRM elections chairman Tanga Odoi had promised to disqualify anybody who dishes out money to bribe voters yet for Karangwa, an exception had to be created because even the NRM EC members fear him. For some reason even Tanga Odoi fears to annoy Karangwa because he can influence his removal from the job.

During the Tuesday night cash bonanza, each district was allocated Ugx20m and each district on average has between 70 and 100 delegates. Each district delegation was allocated Ugx20m which delegates shared. Because Karangwa thinks they are very influential, incumbent MPs and new flag bearers shared another Ugx5bn.

Karangwa hopes that the money he has invested will make delegates forget about the land grabbing accusations he has faced to the extent that even the president complained about the same last Thursday as CEC contestants were being vetted at Entebbe state house.

The president assured Karangwa that many petitions had been received by his office and made it clear that general Nalweyiso was going to be the one to lead the investigating committee which will make Karangwa come face to face with land grabbing victims who have already complained to state house asking for protection.

Aidah Nantaba, the Kayunga woman MP recently attributed the death of area LC5 chairman Ffefeka Sserubogo to Karangwa’s desire to own a lot of land in Kayunga.

Dean Lubowa Saava, a respected investigator of land-related injustices and land grabbing scandals, has been saying the same thing on his very popular TV10 gano Mazima YouTube and tik tok channels. Saava has gone as far as reading out a list of people he said have had to die for Karangwa to expand his land ownership in Kayunga and other parts of Uganda.

Throughout the CEC campaigning period, Karangwa has suffered accusations relating to land grabbing and not being on good terms with Mengo, the political seat of Buganda kingdom.

The Katikkiro Mayiga has repeatedly made it clear that the person Mengo will be comfortable relating with on behalf of the NRM has to be one who recognizes and respects the Kabaka, and being one reluctant to denounce the rebel king Ssabanyara of Kayunga Bugerere, Karangwa is clearly not the idea person Mayiga has been describing.

Apart from Karangwa, the others wanting the central region chair are Joseph Mulumba Sewava, Godfrey Kiwanda and Haruna Kasolo who clearly is the man Mengo and the entire Buganda kingdom administration favors.  Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
