A Kampala-based businessman is accusing officers at Natete Police Station of negligence and possible concealment following the theft of his motorcycle outside the station premises. Charles Ssempala told Uganda Radio Network that his motorcycle, registration number UGF 387N, was stolen on April 9, 2026 while parked outside the station’s quarter guard area.
According to Ssempala, he had accompanied his brother to the police station to stand surety and process a police bond for a colleague. He says officers on duty directed them to park outside the station together with other motorcycles.
However, after spending about 20 minutes inside the station, they reportedly returned and found the motorcycle missing.
Ssempala says officers at the quarter guard denied responsibility for the security of the parked motorcycles despite the theft occurring in broad daylight near the station entrance.
He further alleges that when he sought access to CCTV footage, he was informed that he would have to pay before the footage could be reviewed. According to him, officers later claimed the cameras did not capture anything useful.
Ssempala says he was later referred to the CCTV command centre in Naguru, but footage there allegedly only showed him arriving at the station and did not capture how the motorcycle left the premises.//Cue in . Naye
He also claims he started receiving threats warning him to abandon the matter.Ssempala says he remains puzzled about how a motorcycle could be stolen from outside a police station known for heavy security deployment and suspects officers manning the quarter guard may know more about the incident.
He further alleged that attempts to trace the investigation file have yielded little progress, saying some officers informed him that the file could not be located.According to Ssempala, one officer tried to help search for the file within the Criminal Investigations offices but later reported that it was missing.Lawyer Kato Tumusiime says incidents involving disappearance of police files continue to undermine public confidence in the force.Tumusiime argues that missing files are often linked to deliberate interference by individuals seeking to frustrate investigations or conceal wrongdoing.He warned that such incidents fuel public perceptions that some police officers collude with criminal gangs instead of protecting citizens and property.
Diana Nandawula confirmed that the motorcycle theft case was officially registered at Natete Police Division under SD Reference 78/09/04/26.
