Police in Masaka are hunting for residents who vandalised the property of a murder suspect Kulaish Kamugisha, alias Fred Mujuliz. Over the weekend, a mob of residents from Kasaala Cell in Katwadde Ward, Nyendo-Mukungwe Division in Masaka City, stormed Mujulizi’s home, set it on fire and vandalised all the properties.
Mujuli was last week arrested in connection with a series of murders. The mob also slashed Mujulizi’s banana plantation and looted iron sheets, doors and windows after demolishing his house.
Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, says police have launched a manhunt for individuals believed to have involved in the destruction and looting of the property.
Kasirye says police have obtained video recordings of the mob action, which they intend to use to identify and track down those involved in the destruction and looting of the property.
On Friday, Fred Mujulizi, was arraigned before Masaka Grade One Magistrates’ Court last Friday. He was charged with counts of murder, ritual sacrifice and human trafficking.
He was charged alongside Huzairuh Kyambadde, a resident of Nkoni trading centre in Lwengo district, who police allege procured the murder for witchcraft purposes. Mujulizi confessed to the offences, claiming he murdered the woman in pursuit of wealth.
Police subsequently searched his home where they recovered exhibits, they say corroborate his confession.
Police have identified Mujulizi as a long-sought suspect who has been on their wanted list for more than a decade in connection with a series of gruesome murders dating back to 2012-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
