Police in Napak District have arrested three individuals in connection with an unlawful demonstration that took place in Matany Town Council on Saturday. According to authorities, a group of approximately 150 to 200 people—suspected supporters of Woman MP aspirant Namoe Stella—had gathered at her residence to plan the protest. The group later marched through the main street of the town, carrying placards and expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome of the recent NRM primary elections.
Upon receiving intelligence about the planned demonstration, a team of officers from Kangole Central Police Station, led by District Police Commander (DPC) Wilfred Waigo, swiftly responded to the scene. Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto regional police spokesperson, said the protesters dispersed upon seeing the security forces, and only three suspects were apprehended.
The arrested individuals were identified as Lucy Iraman, Racho Lotimong, and Christine Lokiduk, all residents of Matany Town Council. Longole confirmed that the suspects are currently detained at Napak Central Police Station for further interrogation. Longole urged individuals dissatisfied with the election results to seek redress through lawful and structured channels.
“We recommend directing concerns and disputes to the NRM Secretariat, which is equipped to handle such matters. Additionally, those with grievances can explore legal options to ensure that their concerns are addressed peacefully and lawfully,” Longole reiterated.
He emphasized the importance of resolving political disputes within the framework of the law to maintain public order and stability. He also warned that unlawful demonstrations could lead to serious disruptions and legal consequences. In the recently concluded NRM primaries, incumbent District Woman MP Faith Chuna Loru Nakut secured 21,354 votes, defeating her opponent, Stella Namoe, who garnered 19,896 votes.
