The Ministry of Local Government has ordered the immediate interdiction of Simon Karamagi, the Fort Portal City Finance Officer to pave way for investigations into allegations of gross negligence of duty, abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources, and possible financial impropriety.

In a letter dated July 27, addressed to the Fort Portal City Town Clerk, Ben Kumumanya the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Local Government noted that the decision follows concerns raised during a meeting convened by the Minister of Local Government in Fort Portal City.

Over the weekend, Balaam Barugahara the Minister of Local Government ordered for the arrest of seven Fort Portal City Council officials including Karamagi after getting reports from leaders and residents about alleged mismanagement ofpublic resources.

According to the letter, the allegations against Karamagi include gross negligence of duty, abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources, and possible financial impropriety, which the ministry says have greatly compromised service delivery in the city.

The ministry directed that the finance officer be interdicted with immediate effect to allow investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant government agencies.

The directive cites Section (F-s)-14 of the Public Service Standing Orders, 2021, as the basis for the interdiction.

“The above-mentioned officer be interdicted to pave way for investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant government agencies,” the letter reads in part-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
