Police in Katwe Kabatooro Division, Kasese District, have arrested a suspect in connection with an attack that left five cows injured in Nyamatungu Village, Nyakatonzi Sub-county. The incident happened on June 15, 2026, at around 3:00 pm when a group of people, allegedly armed with pangas, spears, and stones, attacked herdsmen, chased them away, and injured their cattle.

According to police, the herdsmen’s employer, Christopher Kanonia, was informed about the attack and reported the matter to Nyakatonzi Police Station. A team of police officers responded to the scene and confirmed that five cows had sustained injuries. Officers also collected photographic evidence to support investigations.

Police also held community policing engagements with farmers and cattle keepers in the area as part of efforts to address tensions between the groups.

Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East Police spokesperson, said a suspect identified as Muhindo Zaverio was identified during the meeting and arrested to assist with investigations. He said police are still investigating the motive behind the attack and appealed to members of the public with information to come forward.

The injured cattle are receiving veterinary treatment, while police have assured residents that investigations will continue to ensure those responsible are brought to justice-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
