Police in Kitgum have arrested 11 suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting drug-related crimes within Kitgum Municipality. According to Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander, the suspects were apprehended from Kony Paco and Westland cells in Central Division, as well as Camcam Cell in Pandwong Division.

The operation, conducted with precision, led to the recovery of several bundles of opium, with some suspects caught in the act of smoking the substance. Oyesigye said the suspects are currently detained at Kitgum Central Police Station and are expected to be charged with possession of opium. The case files have been forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for guidance.

He commended the local community for their cooperation, noting that the success of the operation was largely due to residents’ vigilance and support. “This should serve as a strong warning to those involved in illicit drug activities. The police are committed to tackling drug-related crimes and ensuring safety in the district,” Oyesigye said. He emphasized the importance of continued community collaboration in the fight against crime-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
