Parliament has scheduled joint committee meetings to consider the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026.
The Bill was read for the first time on April 15 and referred by the Speaker to a joint committee comprising the Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs and the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs for scrutiny.
According to a notice from the Office of the Clerk to Parliament, the committees will meet at Conference Hall A starting at 10:00am.
The first meeting, set for April 23, will hear submissions from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Attorney General.
On April 24, the committees will engage a wider group of stakeholders, including the Uganda Bankers Association, Uganda Human Rights Commission, Leader of Opposition, Members of Parliament, and civil society organisations such as FOWODE and FIDA Uganda.
The meetings will consider submissions on the Bill before the committees compile a report for Parliament.
