One person has been killed in an attack on Bugoye Police Station in Busongora North County, Kasese District. The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday when unknown assailants, reportedly armed with pangas, raided the police station.
Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner Joshua Katunda confirmed the death and said four people had been arrested as investigations continued. The four people arrested were Irumba Simon, 26, Kiiza Abson, 29, Kadama George, 25, and Baluku Lenaxi, 28.
It was not immediately clear whether the four were suspected of taking part in the attack or had been detained to assist investigators with information.
Katunda condemned the violence and urged residents to remain calm as security agencies worked to establish what happened and apprehend those responsible.
Police have since deployed additional resources to secure the area and gather information that could help investigators trace the attackers.
Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate appealed to residents to cooperate with the investigation, saying information from the community could help security agencies make progress in the case. Katalikawa James Muthulanda, the Bugoye Sub-county LCIII chairperson, said the area remained tense following the attack.
He said residents were still coming to terms with the incident, particularly amid a series of attacks reported in the wider area that have left people dead and forced some residents to abandon their homes for fear of their safety. Security agencies have continued to maintain a presence in the area as investigations into the attack proceed-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
