One person has been confirmed dead and 40 other passengers injured after a Baby Coach bus from Kampala heading to Paidha collided head-on with a fuel tanker at Payila, along the Pakwach-Nebbi road.
The Bus registration number UBB 145S, driven by a man only identified as Mustafa, on reaching Payila in Alwi Sub County at 9:35 pm on Tuesday, collided with an oncoming Mercedes Benz Fuel Tanker, Kenyan registration number KBW 679H/ZG 0855, driven by Isaac Adan Omar, aged 48 years.
Collins Asea, the Police Spokesperson for West Nile, says that investigations are still ongoing into the cause of the accident. But it’s suspected that overspeeding and reckless driving on the part of the two drivers led to the accident. “Those in critical condition have been taken to Pakwach Health centre IV where they are currently being managed,” Asea said.
Asea added that the two vehicles were towed to Pakwach Central Police Station pending further inquiries. Following the incident, police have issued a stern warning to all motorists to avoid recklessness on the road-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
