One person has been killed and two others seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash along the Gulu–Kampala Highway in Luwero District. The accident happened at about 3:00 a.m. in Naluvule Village, Katikamu Sub-county.
The vehicles involved were a yellow Nissan, registration number UBM 653N; a white Toyota Sienta, UBL 321R; and a silver-grey Toyota Alphard, SSD 990BZ. According to preliminary police findings, the Toyota Alphard was travelling from Luwero towards Kampala when its driver attempted to overtake the Nissan, which was travelling in the same direction and was positioned on the right side of the road.
Police say the Alphard driver lost control while overtaking, swerved to the right, and collided head-on with the Toyota Sienta, which was coming from the Kampala side towards Luwero. A male passenger travelling in the Alphard died at the scene. His identity had not been established by the time of the report.
Two other men, whose identities were also not immediately known, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Luwero General Hospital for treatment. Savannah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima said the deceased’s body was taken to the Luwero General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
