A motor accident involving a Toyota Noah claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman and left five others seriously injured in Kimoro Village, Got-Nam Hills, along the Parombo–Panyimur Road in Pakwach District. The crash occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM, according to a police report filed under reference TAR: 18/2025 and TSD: 06/01/06/2025 at Pakwach Central Police Station.
Police identified the deceased as Motindane Monica Phillip Orwinya, a 61-year-old Congolese national and resident of Angumu Cell in Panyimur Town Council, Pakwach District. The injured include Acia Florence, 61, a Lugbara from Ediofe in Arua City; Maneno Monica, 51, a Lugbara from Maracha Town Council in Maracha District; Ocaru Moreen, 32, from Ambukoa Village in Olufe Sub-county, Maracha District; Lucky Raymond, 35, a Lugbara from Pajulu in Arua District; and Orwinya Spencer, a 2-year-old Alur and grandson of the deceased.
Speaking to journalists, SP Collins Asea, the police spokesperson for the West Nile region, said preliminary investigations point to brake failure as the cause of the accident. The vehicle, a silver Toyota Noah registration number UAJ 208V, was being driven by Acia Florence and was carrying seven passengers at the time of the crash.
According to SP Asea, the group was traveling from Arua to Panyimur via Nebbi and Parombo when the vehicle reportedly lost braking power while descending Got-Nam Hills, causing it to veer off the road and roll multiple times down a steep slope. The injured were first rushed to Panyimur Health Centre III and later referred to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for advanced treatment.
The body of the deceased was transported to Nebbi Hospital for a post-mortem examination upon request by the family. Asea added that the wreckage of the vehicle remains at the scene, pending towing by a breakdown service. Police say further investigations into the incident are ongoing-URN.
