Unknown assailants reportedly shot Patricia Munguriek, a nurse with arrows three times on Tuesday evening during the conclusion of NRM candidates’ campaigns in Zombo District. The incident occurred in the political hotspot of Paidha Town Council, specifically in Akir Cell, Zingili Ward.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, after recording a statement with police, Munguriek was rushed to Paidha Health Centre III for medical attention. According to her sister, Sarah Piranok, the assailants trailed them to their home and attacked Patricia at around 11 p.m. as she opened the padlock on their door.
In an interview with our reporter, Piranok said they had been participating in a night-time morale-boosting event in support of Topista Achamfua, a candidate in the Women’s MP race. She explained that more than five attackers overpowered them at the entrance.
The assailants reportedly shot Patricia in the thigh and chest and then captured her. Piranok said she narrowly escaped with her life. Topista Achamfua confirmed that Munguriek is one of her staunch supporters and condemned the attack, calling on fellow candidates and supporters to reject violence in politics. “They held her captive, threatened her, grabbed her mobile phone, and asked her whether she is my supporter, which she bravely confirmed,” said Achamfua.
Zombo District Police Commander Denis Kamugisha condemned the act, stating that investigations have begun. The case of attempted murder has been registered at Paidha Central Police Station under reference number: Ref: 35/16/07/2025.
Meanwhile, the Zombo Resident District Commissioner, Festus Ayikobua, has called for peaceful campaigns and elections. He urged candidates and their supporters to refrain from criminal acts-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
