The newly appointed Kadhi of Madi-Okollo Muslim District, Sheikh Abdul Wahid, has committed to championing unity among Muslims and the wider community to strengthen the Islamic faith and contribute to the development of the district.

Madi-Okollo is among the newly approved Muslim districts in West Nile established by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council after being curved out of the greater Arua Muslim District, which previously comprised Terego, Maracha, Arua City and Arua District.

Sheikh Abdul Wahid said teamwork and unity will be key in helping the newly created Muslim district achieve its development goals during his tenure as the first District Kadhi.

A Muslim District is an administrative unit made up of existing local government districts for purposes of administration under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. Some Muslim districts consist of a single district while others are merged to form one administrative unit.

This is the first time Madi-Okollo has received a District Kadhi since the district’s recent creation, and Sheikh Abdul Wahid expressed optimism that success will be achieved through teamwork, unity and guidance from experienced leaders within the system.

West Nile Regional Kadhi, Sheikh Mahmoud Mahad, called on all stakeholders to support the new District Kadhi so that he can effectively execute his duties and overcome challenges associated with establishing the new district.
Meanwhile, Ustaz Hamza Mugisha appealed for support in mobilizing resources through different strategies to facilitate activities of the new district and support plans by the administration that will be constituted for various roles.

Sheikh Abdul Wahid, is expected to constitute an executive committee comprising various leaders, including the District Chairperson, to support his office in implementing activities and programs. Other newly created Muslim districts in West Nile approved by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council include Obongi, Zombo and Terego-URN.
