The Directorate of Public Prosecutions-DPP has commissioned a new office block worth 500 Million Shillings in Jinja City.
Construction was undertaken by Zion Sanctuary Limited kicked off in August 2023 and completion works were concluded in October 2024.
The Assistant Regional DPP, Alex Ojok says that they have been challenged with limited space to accommodate witnesses during interrogation processes, however, the new office will ease their operations without compromising on privacy.
Ojok however, notes that they are still constrained with limited staff numbers, where some districts operate without resident state attorneys. He said the spacious office will create enough room for the new officers, slated to be recruited in the future.
Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson James Mubi says that the new office is located near the Jinja magisterial area and less than a kilometre away from the Jinja central police station, which will ease access to justice.
Mubi argues that, previously the DPP’s office has been situated in a congested homestead, which deterred accessibility to the public.
Jinja Resident City Commissioner, Richard Gulume said that the government will save more money that was spent on renting.
“Most of the government agencies spend a lot of money in renting, but after completion of this building, I believe officials from the DPP’s office can revert the rental fees on other pending expenditures,” he says-URN.
