Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has called on the people of Busoga to rally behind his bid for Uganda’s top office, pledging to return the region’s natural resources to the hands of the communities.
While addressing a rally at Bukungu Landing Site in Buyende District on Thursday, Nandala expressed disappointment with the government’s takeover of natural assets such as lakes, which he says are critical sources of livelihood for the people of Busoga.
He vowed that once elected, his government would restore authority over lake management to the communities themselves, noting that the current system, where beach management committees are controlled by the army, has alienated locals from resources that rightfully belong to them.
Turning to infrastructure, Nandala decried the dilapidated state of the Kamuli-Bukungu road, a key transport corridor that has for years been neglected. He promised that his administration would prioritise its upgrade to tarmac, easing transport and trade for the people of the sub-region.
Meanwhile, FDC Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi rallied Busoga residents to entrust Nandala with their votes, describing him as a tested and genuine leader whose record in fighting corruption speaks for itself.
“You may want to look at Nandala Mafabi’s entire adult life,” Amuriat said, “he has been consistent, courageous, and unwavering in fighting corruption at all levels of government. That is the kind of leadership Uganda needs, and that is the kind of leadership Busoga should support.”
