Police in Nakapiripirit District have rescued 22 children aged between 4 and 15 years from an alleged human trafficking operation. The children were being transported to an unknown destination by Anjella Lomongin, a 36-year-old parish councilor for Moru-Ajore in Kawach Sub-county.
The rescue operation, led by Nakapiripirit District Police Commander Moses Oola, occurred on December 8th after authorities received a tip-off about the incident. The children were being transported to Mpogo Village in Sironko District without the knowledge or consent of Nakapiripirit district officials.
It is alleged that Lomongin, on December 3rd, unlawfully transported the children, all aged below 15, from Okudud Village in Moru-Ajore Parish, Kawach Sub-county. According to the community, Lomongin had earlier introduced an unidentified Arab man to Mpogo Village in September 2024, claiming he intended to construct a school for the community. However, the man later disappeared without explanation.
On December 3rd, Lomongin allegedly convinced parents and their children to board her vehicle under the pretext of fulfilling the school construction plan. Following the tip-off, SP Moses Oola led a rescue operation, apprehending Lomongin and securing the children. The victims have been taken to Namalu Police Station, where they are under care as investigations continue.
Mount Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed the rescue and stated that a case file (VIDE CRB 126/2024) has been opened. The children are undergoing examinations using PF 3A forms to aid in the investigation. Longole assured the public that further inquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances of the case and ensure justice is served-URN.
