President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has advised landlocked developing countries to eliminate all non-tariff barriers in order to unlock their full development potential.

President Museveni’s message was delivered on his behalf by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, during the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, taking place in the city of Awaza, Turkmenistan.

The Prime Minister is leading a Ugandan delegation to deliberate on how the 32 landlocked developing countries around the world can harness their full potential to achieve socio-economic transformation.

The President further urged developed nations to support landlocked developing countries with concessional loans to enable them to finance critical infrastructure development programmes.

During the opening ceremony, UN Secretary-General António Guterres highlighted the challenges faced by landlocked countries, which continue to hinder their development progress.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Prime Minister also informed delegates of the steps Uganda has taken to revitalize its manufacturing sector, aiming to achieve a $500 billion growth strategy by 2040—an ambitious leap from the current $50 billion.
