The campaign for Gen. Moses Ali, the NRM Parliamentary candidate for Adjumani West, is still going on even though he cannot attend in person due to ill health.
Moses Ali is facing three other candidates. His main rival is Patrick Tandrupasi from the FDC. Moses Ali’s campaign manager said the four-term MP has prioritized major infrastructure development projects aimed at transforming the constituency if he is re-elected.
Among Ali’s priorities is the Laropi bridge, a project locals say will significantly ease movement between Adjumani and neighbouring districts. Ali’s campaign team also pledged to lobby for the construction of the Sinyinya road and bridge, which becomes impassable during the rainy seasons.
The team has also reaffirmed Ali’s commitment to lobby for the upgrade and construction of the Laropi -Moyo-Afoji road, a major route expected to boost trade, reduce transport costs, and improve access to social services.
While some residents have acknowledged that progress has been made in the Adjumani roads sector in recent years, several areas still lag with inadequate infrastructure.
Regina Dropia, a resident of Openzizi Central village in Adropi Sub County, expressed hope that the promised projects would improve household incomes in the district and also address the transport challenges of crossing the River Nile.
Speaking in Madi, Dropia said, “Our wish as the people of Adjumani is to have the bridge constructed, we suffer a lot with the ferry, which keeps breaking down, and sometimes we are forced to use private motorized boats, which is costly,”.
Meanwhile, Fred Vukoni, a youth mobilizer in Adropi Sub-County, said that though Gen. Ali is unable to physically appear for the campaigns, his manifesto will offer support to the youth groups and address unemployment within the communities.
Among other key pledges of Gen. Moses Ali are the construction of a health center IV in Adjumani Town and lobbying for Municipality Status.
According to reports, Gen. Moses Ali has been advised to take rest and desist from public engagements after returning from a one-month health leave in Germany and getting nominated to contest for the Parliamentary seat of Adjumani West Constituency.
