Inmates from Biiso Government Prison in Buliisa District have discovered the body of a boda boda rider who is suspected to have been murdered by unknown assailants. The deceased has been identified as Gilbert Isingoma, a resident of Booma Village in Butiaba Sub-County, Buliisa District.

Isingoma’s body was found lying in a cassava plantation in Kanyaranyara Cell, Kahemura Ward, Biiso Town Council, on Wednesday by two inmates who had been deployed to work on a piece of land in the area. Preliminary information indicates that Isingoma was last seen on Sunday evening while riding his Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UMA 137KF, from Butiaba Landing Site heading towards Hoima Town.

He had reportedly not been seen since then until his body was discovered. Nicholas Aliganyira, a resident of Biiso Town Council, suspects the assailants could have killed Isingoma from another location before transporting and dumping his body. Ibrahim Musa, the former Butiaba Town Council LCIII Chairperson, said Isingoma had recently acquired the motorcycle through a loan scheme with Tugende, questioning why criminals targeted him.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, said preliminary findings indicate that the rider could have been killed by unknown assailants who later took off with his motorcycle. He said the body was found about 200 metres off the Biiso-Hoima Road and was later picked up by police and taken to Buliisa General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

Hakiza explained that the two inmates who discovered the body immediately alerted their supervisors, who then notified police. He appealed to members of the public to provide information that could help police identify and arrest the suspects.

Police have since launched investigations and are tracking the suspected stolen motorcycle. Once arrested, the suspects are expected to face charges of murder and aggravated robbery-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
