The Ministry of Education and Sports has received 50 television sets to be distributed to primary schools in the Busoga sub-region in a bid to enhance digital learning.
The donation, made by Hisense Uganda, was officially handed over on Friday. Dr. Moriku Kaducu, the State Minister for Primary Education, said the initiative is timely and will improve access to education for learners.
“Government developed the Digital Education Standards and Guidelines in 2021 to accelerate the transition of Uganda’s education system from traditional teaching methods to modern digital learning under Vision 2040,” Kaducu said.
She noted, however, that challenges such as lack of infrastructure, high data costs, teacher workload, and limited access to digital tools still hinder progress.
To ensure fairness, Kaducu revealed that the Minister of Education, First Lady Janet Museveni, has directed the ministry to develop a clear method of distributing the 50 television sets across the country, noting that the initial list of schools was not representative.
Rukia Nakadama, the Third Deputy Prime Minister and guest of honor, praised Hisense for partnering with the Busoga Consortium for Development and the Busoga Education Initiative to support education in the region. She urged head teachers of the selected schools to use the sets effectively, warning that monitoring teams will follow up to ensure accountability.
Among the first beneficiaries are Candlelight School Nakasajja, St. Henry’s College Namugongo, and Giant Lion School Manyangwa.
Liu Mingshu, the Managing Director of Smartech Electronics, announced that Hisense China and Smartech Electronics will establish a free Hisense Technology Museum in December, where schoolchildren can learn about the application of physics in daily life. The companies also pledged 100 square meters of free co-working space for young entrepreneurs and committed to manufacturing products that integrate local languages.
Jason Ou Yang, President of Hisense Middle East, Africa, and India, said the company is committed to customer-centered innovations. During the event, Hisense also unveiled its first-ever 116-inch television to demonstrate advances in viewing technology-URN.
