Mbale Secondary School (Mbale SS) on Friday, November 7, 2025, held its final briefing for a record cohort of 908 Senior Six candidates ahead of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) exams.
The school administration emphasized adherence to examination rules and issued a strong warning against cheating. The event was held in the school’s main hall.
Moses Buyera, the headteacher of Mbale Secondary School, described the briefing as a crucial “Turning point” in the academic calendar, stressing that success hinges on candidates ‘knowing what to do during examinations.”
“We caution them on the rules and regulations governing the examination and also seriously caution them against malpractice,” Buyera said.
“Mbale SS is a school that is known for not indulging in malpractice… we don’t expect any student to want to cheat because the consequences of cheating, we all know, are not good.”
The school is hosting its largest group in recent years, with the candidates split between two centres, Mbale SS Main with 499 candidates, and Mbale SS Annex hosting 409 candidates.
Buyera noted that the school’s capacity to handle the large numbers has been boosted by the recent completion of its new main hall.
“All our candidates will be in the main halls, unlike in the past, where some of them would be in the classrooms,” he explained.
“That gives us room for the continuing classes to be able to continue teaching and learning, so that we don’t close the school like it is in many centres,” he said.
Buyera disclosed that a majority of the candidates will sit the exams before completing school fees payment. He said the school has over forty million shillings in arrears. Buyera assured parents that no student would be barred from sitting the exams.
“We allow the students to sit, and when they sit, we sometimes retain their results, and then we ask them first to clear before we give them their results… We always tell them to come to the school and negotiate.”
Buyera expressed high expectations for the candidates, noting their strong performance in the O-Level exams two years ago.
