The Mbale City Clerk Ambrose Ocen has written to all stakeholders in the City laying down reasons why the senior pastors at the above referenced church will soon be arrested and criminally prosecuted if they don’t stop noise pollution which is the reason why their neighbors can no longer have peaceful sleep.
In a letter written to the Yahweh church leaders, Ocen makes it clear that during their worship sessions, the leaders and worshippers have repeatedly failed to comply with Uganda’s environmental laws which set maximum permissible noise levels.
The church leaders are notified that if they don’t stop their mischief, they will be locked up and prosecuted for breaching legal provisions enshrined under sections of the environment Act and the public health Act.
They are also informed about national environment noise standards & control regulations which prohibit and criminalise noise pollution in Uganda during both day and night.
“You are therefore hereby instructed to minimise or discontinue all activities that are causing the production of noise from the space you are occupying with immediate effect and [you] are also required to restore the tranquility in the surroundings.”
“Be notified that failure to comply with this notice shall result into closure of the premises and criminal prosecution being instituted against you and/or your agents,” partly reads Ocen’s 16th letter to the Yahweh Church Ministries whose legal status (as in being a registered and duly incorporated entity) has previously been disputed.
The warning and closure-threatening letter is copied to several offices including NEMA, the City senior law enforcement officer, the City Mayor and the City’s Principal Environment Officer for Mbale. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
