John Kabihirwa, the LCIII Chairperson for Bikonzi sub-county, Masindi district has been killed in an accident. Kabihirwa was knocked dead by a speeding hit-and-run vehicle in Rukondwa village along the Masindi – Hoima Road on Tuesday evening.
Osborn Bajuga, an eye witness told Uganda Radio Network in an interview that Kabihirwa was knocked dead from behind by a speeding vehicle that was heading towards Hoima.
According to Bajuga, the deceased was from a meeting in Masindi town and was returning to his home when he was knocked dead by the speeding vehicle.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says that the hunt for the driver is ongoing. He has warned drivers in the region against overspeeding and reckless driving during this festive season.
Sapline Balyebuga, the LCIII Chairperson for Kabango Town Council has described the deceased as a hardworking person who wished to see his sub-county and the district developing.
Julius Kyahurwa, the LCIII Chairperson for Budongo sub-county advised drivers to be vigilant while driving on roads.
The accident comes barely a day after Simon Peter Musiila, the Kole District Internal Security Officer (DISO) perished in an accident in Kaduku 2 village in Kiryandongo district.
Musiila, died in a motor accident in Kiryandongo on Monday evening as he was driving a Toyota Hilux with vehicle registration number UG 4543C. He reportedly failed to negotiate a sharp corner in Kaduku village. His vehicle veered off the road, overturned several times, and he was killed instantly.
