The Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has assured the people of Obongi that the wind of change has come for all Ugandans who have been left behind by a few people during the last 40 years.
While addressing a mammoth crowd in Obongi town on Tuesday, Nandala said the time has come and time is now to change, and further commended the people of Obongi for supporting a founding member of the FDC Kaps Hassan Fungaroo, who he described as a hard-working man, who fought to ensure the ferry, MV Obongi, was installed.
Nandala, however, described the only ferry in Obongi as inadequate, adding that he will ensure there is another ferry, one going and another one returning, as it’s a road.
He also promised to revive the survey that was done about having a bridge across the Nile from Obongi to Adjumani district and ensure the bridge is constructed.
Describing Obongi as his second home, Nandala called on the people of Obongi to vote for the FDC President candidate, whose symbol is a key.
” This place used to grow cotton and cassava. Where are they now? There used to be the Madi Cooperative Union, where is it? They say cotton has no money, why are prisons and Moses Ali growing cotton?” Nandala demanded to know.
According to Nandala, cotton remains a cash crop, which does well in West Nile and should be revived.
He, however, castigated Museveni for not regulating money lenders who continue to cheat the poor peasants in such money-lending deals.
“That’s why we come with a plan that Uganda needs a person who loves Uganda. Our plan is to have money invested in agriculture such that whoever is there gets money from it. We shall an Agricultural Bank so that you can go there and get interest-free loans for your Agricultural business. Whatever you grow will be bought.”
Mafabi added. He also promised that all small businesses will be given seed capital so that they can grow. All villages in Uganda will be given a grant of Ugx500 million every year.
Obongi is a historical FDC stronghold but experienced a wave of shift to the NRM in the 2021 general elections, but the party has put a spirited effort to reclaim it in next year’s elections.
