The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kasana-Luweero, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, has challenged the newly appointed priests at Lwampanga Parish in Nakasongola District to intensify evangelization and increase the number of Catholics in the area.
Bishop Mukasa says the establishment of the new parish should not only provide the faithful with easier access to pastoral services but should also enable the Church to reach out to more people and bring them into the Catholic faith.
Speaking at speaking during the inauguration of St. Mary’s Lake View Lwampanga Parish, the Bishop tasked the pioneer Parish Priest, Fr. Edward Mulindwa, and Fr. Wasswa Lubega Paul, to take advantage of their youthful energy to expand the Church’s pastoral presence in the area.
Bishop Mukasa was speaking during the inauguration of St. Mary’s Lake View Lwampanga Parish in Nakasongola District. The parish is located along Lake Kyoga, an area that is vulnerable to flooding, presenting additional challenges to communities living in the area.
Bishop Mukasa used the area’s experience with floods to challenge the priests to adopt an active approach to pastoral ministry, reaching people where they live rather than waiting for them to come to church. He compared the need to gather more people into the Church to rescuing people from danger, urging the priests to ensure the faithful are brought together and strengthened spiritually.
The Bishop’s challenge comes at a time when the Diocese of Kasana-Luweero is expanding its pastoral structures to serve a growing Catholic population. At the same ceremony, the Vicar General of the Diocese, Msgr. Vincent De Paul Mukiibi, commissioned the newly constructed priests’ residence before installing Fr. Edward Mulindwa as the first Parish Priest of Lwampanga Parish.
The inauguration brings to eight the number of new parishes formally inaugurated by the diocese this year. The diocese has 32 Parishes. The expansion follows Bishop Mukasa’s announcement last year of the creation of 12 new parishes.
Since the beginning of this year, the diocese has been conducting ceremonies to formally inaugurate the new parishes and set them on course to provide pastoral, spiritual and administrative services to Catholics in their respective areas-URN.
