Kopoth Health Center III in Kaabong District is grappling with a severe staff shortage. The facility that is supposed to have 19 personnel has only 8, affecting the provision of health care services.
The shortage of staff has resulted in the existing staff being overworked, with many forced to work day and night shifts without rest. This has taken a toll on their efficiency, making it challenging to provide quality care to the overwhelming number of patients that flock to the facility.
Lokoru Joseph Okocha, the Sidok Sub County LCV Councillor, wants the facility to be upgraded and fully staffed.
Dr. Sharif Nalibe, the Kaabong District Health Officer, said the staff crisis is an issue cutting across the whole district with the staffing level standing at 24 percent, which has continued to affect health service delivery.
Jino Meri, the Kaabong District LCV Chairperson, says the district authorities are discussing with the Ministry of Public Service to get a wage bill for recruitment in the education and health sectors, which are the most hit departments with low staffing levels-URN.
