Matia Lwanga Bwanika is on his way out of Wakiso LC5 governorship chair and wants to become MP for Busiro south on the NUP ticket (has led Wakiso since 2011). However, he is facing serious hurdles in Busiro south after rogue-minded officials inside Kavule decided to unleash foot soldiers to antagonize and humiliate him at public functions.
At a recent function Bwanika was targeted and heckled by foot soldiers. They branded him a traitor and made it clear that his decision to front his fellow DP veteran Sempala Kigozi Ssajalyabeene for the position of Wakiso LC5 was betrayal and amounted to disrespecting the principal Kyagulanyi who long ago publicly endorsed and started popularizing his old friend Nasif Najja, the current Wakiso district speaker, for the same seat.
This hostility signals the possibility of Dr. Bwanika, who foot soldiers claim to be a Mpuuga sympathizer, being denied NUP ticket for Busiro south. Nasif’s younger brother, another Najja, is Kyagulanyi’s chief bodyguard and the family might influence Bobi to totally ignore Bwanika.
Ssajalyabeene is perceived at Kavule as a disloyal traitor who defied the principal in 2021 when he competed with NUP flag bearer pastor David Sserukenya as an independent for Makindye Ssabagabo MP Seat. He had been the incumbent and took Sserukenya to be unfit and the two remain sworn enemies up to this day.
Some of the Bwanika supporters claim that their man is very senior yet he hasn’t been treated with adequate respect by the principal. They expected Kyagulanyi to come out and declare him the sole candidate for the NUP ticket in Busiro south the way he has done for Waiswa Mufumbiro Alex and David Lewis Rubongoya for Nakawa east and Kampala central respectively.
Instead, Kavule ordered Dr. Bwanika to go and popularize himself in Busiro so that the principal gets to assess him in comparison with other aspirants wanting the NUP ticket. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
