The Kotido district works department has revived the operations of the district garage. The garage which was housed in the works and technical department has not been non-functional for more than twenty years.
Paul Logole, the Kotido district engineer says that the renovation of the garage cost 32 million Shillings. According to Logole, the move would not only ensure timely servicing of the district fleet but also cut the unnecessary costs of repairing the vehicles in the neighbouring districts of Mbale and Soroti.
Logole says that seven district vehicles have since been abandoned at different garages due to poor monitoring of the repairs. He adds that some vehicles have had their spare parts stolen in the garages.
According to Longole, reviving the operations of the garage has so far registered success due to close monitoring of the repairs, and the vehicles that had been grounded for over 8 years have been repaired.
Logole adds that the district plans to save more than 200 million shillings on fuel and allowances for the drivers of the over 20 district vehicles for their routine service in the outside garages-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
