The territorial Police in Mbondwe division arrested and detained a 35-year-old man, Muhammad Bwambale, on suspicion of impersonating a Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) official.
The suspect is a resident of Kyambogho 1 cell in Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town Council.
According to police reports, the suspect was found dressed in a URA uniform and allegedly collecting money from residents in Kabuyiri cell, Mbondwe Lhubiriha Town Council on Tuesday.
He was reportedly claiming to be a URA official, a claim that has now been proven false.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and handed over to Mpondwe Police Station for further investigation.
Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East police Spokesperson, said that inquiries were ongoing and that once completed, the suspect will be presented before the court to answer charges related to impersonation and fraud.
