With only twenty-two days remaining, the Kasese Catholic Diocese is deep in preparation for the highly anticipated Martyrs Day celebration June 3rd, 2026.
The event promises to be a grand occasion, led by the Kasese Diocese, with vibrant performances and a diverse choir representing the entire region. Over 500 have been carefully selected fir the choir to perform at the celebrations.
Andrew Katongole from Mityana Diocese, hired to train the Kasese choir, confirmed that a variety of instruments including piano, xylophone, trumpet, and others will be used to enhance the performances.
In addition to the adult choir, over 105 children from across the diocese are undergoing intensive training under the leadership of Bwambale Rosina, who emphasized that the youngsters are committed to delivering their best performance.
Team leader Ithungu Milen Kyanga, who previously led the Uncle Bell group, called on Christians nationwide not to miss the event, highlighting that a spectacular show is being prepared.
The choir rehearsals are taking place at Holy Dove Secondary School, where approximately 450 singers are practicing diligently.
The team also includes 80 members from Butembo Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo and 20 from Germany, all participating via Zoom.
Rev. Fr. Bwambale Mark, diocesan chaplain, stated that the team has made significant progress, having passed all song rehearsals. The performers are now in the final stretch of preparations for the big day.
However, despite the progress, the diocese still faces financial challenges. Rev. Fr. Kule John Baptist, chairperson of the Namugongo organizing committee, who recently visited the site, confirmed that while the choir is ready, the total budget of over four billion shillings has not yet been fully secured.
The diocese calls on supporters and stakeholders to contribute towards making the celebration a memorable one.
The event will feature performances in multiple languages, including Latin, to celebrate the region’s cultural diversity-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
