Joint security forces have recovered four of five goats stolen by suspected Karamojong warriors during a raid on a home in Abim District. The raid occurred at around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2026, when the suspected warriors reportedly attacked Orothiol Village in Alerek Sub-county and stole five goats belonging to 79-year-old John Obua.
Personnel from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Olem Detachment and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Apeikidor Detachment responded after receiving information about the raid and pursued the suspects.
Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed the recovery, saying the security forces had retrieved four goats, while efforts to recover the remaining animal were ongoing. Longole said the recovered goats would be handed back to their owner after the necessary procedures.
He commended residents for providing timely information and reaffirmed the security forces’ commitment to protecting lives and property. Abim District has, for years, experienced raids attributed to suspected Jie warriors from neighbouring Kotido District, who reportedly attack residents in their homes and gardens, stealing livestock and food items-URN.
