The Government of Uganda has handed over vehicles and motorcycles to districts under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project in a move aimed at strengthening agricultural extension services across the country.

The handover ceremony, held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, was presided over by the Vice President, Jessica Alupo.

Speaking at the event, Alupo emphasized that limited mobility has long hindered effective service delivery to farmers, particularly at the last mile.

“These vehicles and motorcycles will now enable our extension staff to reach farmers more efficiently, provide timely technical support, and enhance accountability,” she said.

She also called for strict accountability in the use of the equipment, reminding beneficiaries that the assets are public resources meant to serve farmers.

The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, highlighted the critical role of extension services in driving agricultural transformation, noting that improved mobility will ensure farmers receive the advisory support needed to boost productivity and incomes.

He urged district authorities to ensure effective utilisation of the equipment to deliver value for money and achieve the intended objectives of improved service delivery.

Officials noted that the project is expected to directly benefit millions of farmers by enhancing productivity, improving market access, and building resilience to climate change.

The UCSATP, supported by the World Bank, is a USD 354 million initiative targeting about 3.9 million beneficiaries across 69 districts.

Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that such investments translate into tangible improvements at household level through increased agricultural production, better incomes, and strengthened extension systems.
