A heated controversy erupted in Mbale city during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s door-to-door village campaign launch today as people purpoting to be invited leaders claimed they were not facilitated as promised.

The event, was held at Bugisu High School in Nkoma ward, Northern City Division in Mbale city and Busiu town council in Mbale district, was officiated by NRM leaders from headquarters. However, things turned chaotic when alleged invited guests exceeded expected numbers, making it difficult for to pay everyone.

Sarah Khamuka, an NRM leader at the village level in Northern City Division, expressed frustration, stating that the invitation letter indicated a meeting start time of 8 am, but officials arrived at 2 pm. She added that attendees were not provided with lunch or refreshments and were promised 10,000 shillings each, which was not fulfilled.

Sam Wambende, an NRM leader from the Industrial City Division, cried foul over what he termed as  increased corruption among some leaders. He claimed that they were not given transport money, despite being told they would receive it.

However, Simon Mulongo, representing Emmanuel Dombo, NRM Eastern Region Mobilization Chairperson also doubling as communication head at NRM, disputed this, as only 10 people from the village party structure were invited.

He emphasized that those complaining were not invited and urged the original invitees to form a committee to campaign for President Museveni and NRM candidates ahead of the 2026 general election.
