Four suspected thugs who have allegedly been terrorizing residents of Kabale Municipality and neighboring areas were on Wednesday evening committed to the High Court to stand trial on multiple charges, including aggravated robbery, murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The accused are Owen Arinda, commonly known as Shakido, a resident of Kirwa Village, Bushuro Parish in Kitumba; Kennedy Akandwanaho, a resident of Ihimbi Village in Rutooma Ward, Northern Division; Mark Asasira, a resident of Nyakiharo Village in Mwanjari Ward, Southern Division; and Smith Arinda, a resident of Kitoma Parish, Rubaya Subcounty in Kabale District.
According to the prosecution, the suspects allegedly committed several offenses on October 1, 2025, including the murder of 40-year-old Stephen Natamba, a night watchman at Albertine Hotel in Makanga Village, Butobere Ward, Central Division. The act is contrary to Sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.
The accused also allegedly attempted to kill the hotel owner, 59-year-old Loyce Kanyoro, who survived with serious injuries. They reportedly fled with Kanyoro’s mobile phone, a 49-inch Samsung television, and other household items. That same night, the suspects are said to have invaded two rented rooms in Kamatojo, Mwanjari, where they attacked and injured Vianny Ngororano, a staff member at Kabale High Court, and stole a mobile phone and money from Osbert Claver.
On the same night, another aggravated robbery was reported in Karugashe, Butobere Division, where thugs allegedly broke into the home of Kenneth Sunday Kabaka and stole a vehicle (registration number UBP 471V), cash, several mobile phones, and other property valued at 40 million shillings. The suspects have been on remand as investigations continued.
During Wednesday evening’s court session, Kabale State Attorney Nagai Noweline informed the court that investigations into the charges had been completed and asked that the suspects be committed to the High Court. Kabale Principal Grade One Magistrate Julius Mutabazi thereafter committed the accused to the High Court, which has the jurisdiction to handle capital offenses, where they will enter their pleas. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, thanked the Grade One Magistrate’s Court and the State Prosecutor for swiftly committing the accused so that the law can take its course.
