The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer, Nandala Mafabi, left Kabale on Sunday without holding any public rally.
According to the Electoral Commission timetable, Nandala was scheduled to hold rallies in Kisoro, Rubanda, and Kabale on Saturday. However, he began his campaign in Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro Town, and Rubanda District.
At Kabale Primary School playground in Kabale District, where he had booked to campaign, the venue remained empty throughout the day. Despite a music drive-through in Kabale Municipality announcing his arrival, Nandala arrived at around 8:00 PM and did not hold any rally.
At 9:00 PM, Nandala and his team—led by party chairman Jack Crissy Sabitti and Robert Centenary, the party vice chairperson in charge of the Western Region—held a talk show on Kabale-based Voice of Kigezi FM, during which they rallied the public to vote for FDC candidates. Nandala blamed his failure to campaign in Kabale on delays in his arrival.
He and his team also echoed calls urging the people of Kigezi to demand the release of their son, retired Colonel Dr. Kiiza Besigye, who is currently in prison on treachery charges.
Mafabi further promised to revive farmers’ cooperative societies and end corruption if voted into power. On Sunday at around 12:30 PM, our reporter observed Nandala and his team driving through Kabale without waving to residents as they headed to Rukiga District, where he was expected to hold rallies.
Jersey Aine, the FDC MP flag bearer for Kabale Municipality, told our reporter that the party plans to reorganize and return to campaign in Kabale.
Later, while campaigning at Nyabirerema Trading Centre in Highland Ward, Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District, at around 1:00 PM, Nandala promised to introduce programs aimed at helping residents overcome poverty.
