The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) West Nile region has received a new office block worth UGX 540 million, funded by the government.

The new block was officially commissioned on Monday by a team of officials from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, led by Permanent Secretary Agnes Kainza Nzogi, along with the Police, Prisons, and political leaders in Arua City.

Speaking at the commissioning in Arua, Ms. Kainza expressed relief after the works after four years and called for good maintenance of the facility. Ms. Kainza also commended Arua district for availing land for the office space and called for more land to construct residential houses for the officials so that they are closer to the offices.

Richard Muhereza, the regional DPP for West Nile, said the new office block will save the government more money since they had been renting a private house for more than ten years at an exorbitant cost, a kilometer away from the courts.

According to Muhereza, their services will also improve for the public since they are now closer to the courts and can attend to verify any court-related complaints with ease.

Salim Komakech, the Resident City Commissioner for Arua, commended the government for availing funds for the new office block and called for more staff to be deployed in the region to handle public complaints.

Sam Wadri Nyakua, the Mayor of Arua City, commended the government for the office construction and added that this was part of the share of the national cake to the people of West Nile, which should bring unity and cooperation among the people.

The new office block for the DPP was constructed by NIGOMAX, and it took nearly four years to complete due to financial challenges and delays in releasing funds to the contractor-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
