The City Hall Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 43-year-old doctor, Martin Adupet, to Luzira Prison on charges of murder.

Dr. Adupet, a resident of Wantoni Village in Mukono Municipality, Mukono District, was on Thursday arraigned before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu, who is in charge of the City Hall Court.

He was charged with murder contrary to Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.Court heard that Dr. Adupet, who is also a gynaecologist, allegedly on January [date], 2026, at Kikaaya Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, with malice aforethought unlawfully killed Cissy Kebirungi.

The accused was not allowed to respond to the charge because it is capital in nature and the Magistrate’s Court lacks jurisdiction to try the offence. If convicted by the High Court, Dr. Adupet faces the maximum penalty for murder under the law, which is death or life imprisonment.

Court records indicate that the deceased, said to be the doctor’s former girlfriend, allegedly called him requesting that he pick her up. The two reportedly went out drinking beer and waragi before checking into Palm Hotel Komamboga, Room 46.It is alleged that they later retired to the room to rest.

According to the records before court, Dr. Adupet later left the hotel during the night and drove to his home in Mukono. He reportedly attempted to call the deceased but received no response.

He allegedly returned to the hotel, checked the room, and found Kebirungi unresponsive.Further records indicate that together with the hotel manager and two other individuals, they carried the deceased to Dr. Adupet’s vehicle and drove to Universal Police Station, which declined to receive the body.

Police officers later visited the hotel room, while the body was transported to the City Mortuary.Dr. Adupet was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. He has been remanded to Luzira Prison until March 3, 2026, as investigations continue.
