Members of the new opposition political party, the Democratic Front-DF, have convened for their first national delegates conference to elect the party’s substantive leadership. The delegates are convening at Laston Gardens in Masaka City.
DF was unveiled to Uganda’s political scene in May this year, after rebranding from the Green Partisan Party (GPP), which was trading as an underdog for some time.
It arose from the irreconcilable differences within the National Unity Platform-NUP, between the party’s top leadership and the former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, also Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba.
Doctor Abed Bwanika, the Member of Parliament for Kimanya-Kabonera division and coordinator of the DF in Masaka indicates that all is set for their party to get its first substantive leadership as they prepare for the next general elections.
He indicates that they have drawn delegates from across the country, from the coordination units the party has established in recent days.
He adds that the delegates’ conference is going to act as a platform for unveiling the party’s strategic direction to the members.
Bwanika also indicates they invited speakers from the different political parties, who are going to help in shaping a picture of the country’s political landscape and modalities of realising transition.
Meanwhile, Joseph Kasirye, the Organising Secretary of the Delegates Conference, has noted that they also intend to present the party’s constitution to the members, to build their confidence and prepare them for the next general elections.
Proscovia Kiruba, one of the DF delegates from Kasese district, says they are eager to know the new direction the party is going to take, unique from other opposition political parties in the country-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
