The construction of Amolatar district administration block has taken shape five years since it started.
In 2020, the construction of the two-storied building was commissioned, and the contract was awarded to Bigon Enterprise Limited, who started the foundation of the building but later abandoned the site due to lack of funds.
Years later, the work has once again begun with the newly redesigned first floor already halfway through. The structure will now have a council hall big enough to accommodate 450 instead of the original plan of only 50 people. The total cost of the construction work has since increased from two to four billion shillings.
So far, close to one billion shillings have already been spent on the foundation and putting up other structures on the first floor, with the expectation that in the new financial year, the building will move to another level. Geoffrey Ocen, the Amolatar District Chairperson, explained that with IPF funding from the Ministry of Finance, the first floor will be completed soon.
“It is slightly big. We modified it from the plan of Oyam District Local Government Council Hall.” He explained. Adding “It is now almost five years down the road. But we have made some significant progress because it was started, and then financial year 2021/2022, the government didn’t send money.” Ocen believes that with adequate and timely release of funds, the entire project will be completed in two years.
In 2006, President Museveni pledged two billion shillings towards the construction of the administration block, whose works began almost a decade later-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
